A short biography

GEORG KAJANUS

Georg Johan Tchegodaieff Kajanus is the son of Prince Paul Tchegodaieffof Russia and Johanna Kajanus, the award-winning Finnish/Norwegian sculptress. His grandfather was Robert Kajanus, composer, conductor, confidant of Sibelius and founder of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

Composer, lyricist and writer Georg Kajanus is best known for being the lead singer, 12-string guitar player and the sole songwriter for the uniquely theatrical pop group, Sailor, which was awarded numerous gold and silver records for its success throughout Europe and Australasia in the 1970s. Kajanus' singles and albums for Sailor achieved Top Ten, Top Twenty, Top Thirty and Top Forty chart status throughout Europe and the UK; the most successful being the singles A Glass of Champagne and Girls Girls Girls. In total, Kajanus' compositions have gone to the top of the pop charts twenty-nine times in the 1970s, the 1990s and 2008. Two of Sailor's world-wide hits:

Girls Girls Girls and A Glass of Champagne have been covered many times. The most recent was the 2008 cover of Champagne by German mega-techno band Scooter, as the title track and single from their UK Number One album, Jumping All Over The World.

OTHER PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT:
In 2008, Kajanus began to work with playwright-screenwriter Roberto Trippini and actress-writer Barbie Wilde on a new version of his musical Sailor, which was the original concept for his group Sailor. The musical contains a unique perspective on life, violence and love. Sailor (lyrics and music by Georg Kajanus) is not only a romantic voyage – it also depicts the brutality of war and life on the fringes of society. Sailor has been conceived as both a stage and film musical drama.
